by Bogey the Cat
Twelve years ago this June, my life was on the verge of a big change. I was in a shelter then, and while I was being taken care of very well, my world was much lonelier. I kept to myself, did some reading, and started to think that maybe life would just go on like this forever. I was alright with that though, and I even found myself agreeing with Mark Twain when I read that “If man could be crossed with a cat it would improve man, but it would deteriorate the cat.” When you live mostly by yourself, you start to believe that you can get by on your own.
I’d tell my friends in the shelter that I enjoyed it there, and they’d agree that animal shelters have great intentions, but they’re not the happiest places for cats like us – many of us who can’t find homes are euthanized. However, shelters provide opportunities. “They are a waiting ground for what’s next and what’s better,” they’d say. I’d shrug, not knowing any different.
Now, as a sixteen-year-old cat in a loving home, it seems hard to imagine life without the parents that adopted me. It isn’t sufficient to simply say they saved my life – they showed me what a blessing it is to be loved, and taught me how important it is to share this blessing with others. That’s why it means so much to me to be the spokespurrson of MyThreeCats.com, where I have a chance to encourage others to show the same kind of love that I’ve received.
There’s no better time to welcome a new member to your loving family than right now, during Adopt-a-Cat-Month. To celebrate and promote this wonderful month, throughout June MyThreeCats.com is donating 10% of all sales proceeds to the Doris Day Animal Foundation. The goal is three-fold:
1) to donate to a wonderful fund that helps protect and promote animal welfare
2) to provide cat owners with innovative, one-of-a-kind products at affordable prices
3) to bring awareness to cat adoption and the amazing impact it has on the lives of both cats and families around the world.
Shelters around the country are overcrowded with kittens and cats just like me. The poor things can’t possibly imagine what they’re missing. Many people don’t know what they’re missing, either. If you are a cat lover and know of someone that would make a great adoptive parent, please let them know. Tell them in a way that lets them know how much cat ownership means to you and incidentally, how you think they would make a great “forever” home for some lucky cat.
My life is different like cat-and-dog, now that I’m in a loving home. I wouldn’t be where I am if it weren’t for a shelter that gave me an opportunity to be adopted and a family willing to do so. June is all about opportunities, too – opportunities to help the Doris Day Animal Foundation, to get great products at MyThreeCats.com, and most importantly, to adopt a new cat into your family circle-and make your life a better one!
